Short answer: Placeit gives you a huge library of ready-made mockup scenes for a flat $14.95/month, but you can only use Placeit's own templates and you render one image at a time. PSDmate does the opposite: it brings no templates, and instead batch-renders the PSD files you already own into every artwork-and-template combination, then writes and publishes the Etsy listing. Choose Placeit if you have no templates and low volume; choose PSDmate if you own PSDs and list in batches.

Where Placeit is the better buy
- Over 100,000 mockup scenes ready to use — you never have to buy or shoot a template.
- Video mockups, logo makers and social templates are bundled into the same subscription.
- No Photoshop knowledge required at any point, and nothing to set up.
- Cheaper than PSDmate as a flat monthly fee if the template library is all you need.
Pick Placeit if: You own no PSD templates, publish a handful of designs a month, and want scenes plus video and logo tools in one flat subscription.
Where PSDmate is the better buy
- Renders PSD templates you own, so your product scenes are not shared with every other Placeit subscriber.
- Batch mode: one job takes a folder of artwork and every template, and returns the full grid as a ZIP.
- Writes Etsy titles, descriptions and 13 tags from the rendered image, then publishes the draft listing over the Etsy API.
- Exports at the PSD's native canvas size — typically 3000px+, well clear of Etsy's 2000px minimum.
- Generates a slideshow MP4 for Etsy's listing video slot from the same mockup set.
Pick PSDmate if: You already buy PSD mockup templates (Creative Market, Envato, Etsy) or shoot your own, and your bottleneck is producing 20–200 listing images per drop rather than finding a scene.
How PSDmate works
You upload the PSD mockup templates you already own — bought from Creative Market, Envato or Etsy, or built from your own photography. PSDmate reads the Smart Object layer in each one, composites your artwork through the template’s own transform, and exports at the PSD’s native canvas size. Point it at a folder of artwork and it renders every design against every template in a single job, returns the set as a ZIP, writes the Etsy title, description and 13 tags from the rendered image, and publishes the draft listing to your shop over the Etsy API.

Frequently asked questions
Can you upload your own PSD template to Placeit?
No. Placeit renders its own hosted template library and has no facility for uploading a Photoshop PSD file with your own Smart Object layers. If you have bought PSD mockup templates, you need Photoshop or a PSD-based renderer such as PSDmate to use them.
Is PSDmate cheaper than Placeit?
No. Placeit is $14.95 per month; PSDmate starts at £15 (about $19) per month. PSDmate costs more because it is doing a different job — batch rendering your own templates and publishing the finished listings — rather than licensing you a scene library.
Do Placeit mockups hurt Etsy SEO?
Not directly — Etsy does not rank listings by mockup source. The indirect cost is conversion: because the same Placeit scenes appear across thousands of shops, buyers scrolling a search page see the same background repeatedly, and a listing that looks identical to five others is harder to click.
Can you use Placeit and PSDmate together?
Yes, and many sellers do. Placeit covers one-off scenes and video where you have no template, and PSDmate handles the repeat production runs against templates you own. They do not overlap in the workflow.
