Etsy allows 140 characters in a listing title and most shoppers read about the first 60, which makes the front of the title the only part that does two jobs at once. This free grader scores a title on the structural rules that decide whether it works: length against the 140-character limit, how many real keywords sit in the weighted opening, repeated words that spend characters without buying a new search term, capitals and separator spam that read as keyword stuffing, whether the title is built from phrases people actually type, and — if you paste your tags too — whether the title and the tags agree. It runs instantly in your browser with no account.
Grade your title
The problem this solves
Title advice is folklore. Sellers are told to use all 140 characters, to separate with pipes, to repeat the main keyword — and some of that actively hurts. Worse, a bad title pattern gets copied across a whole shop before anyone tests it, so one wrong habit costs forty listings rather than one.
What it does
The opening, weighted properly
Checks how many real keywords land in the first 40 characters, and calls out a title that opens with "Beautiful" or "Unique" — words nobody searches for, occupying the space that carries the most weight.
Repetition, counted honestly
Flags any word used more than once, ignoring stop words so "for ... for" is not reported as stuffing. Repeating a keyword does not rank it higher; it spends characters that could have matched something new.
A search preview
Shows roughly what a shopper sees before the title is cut off, which is the part sellers never look at because their own listing page shows the title in full.
Phrases, not word soup
Etsy matches multi-word phrases, so a title that is commas between lone nouns matches fewer real searches than one built from phrases. The check counts single-word fragments and says so.
Title and tags read together
Paste your tags and it checks whether the words opening your title also appear in them. A title and a tag set that disagree split the relevance signal instead of reinforcing it.
No live search data, deliberately
It grades how well a title is built, not whether the words are ones people search. That needs marketplace data and would make a free tool cost money per use — so the page tells you to pair it with real keyword research instead of pretending otherwise.
Where it lives in PSDmate

Questions
How long should an Etsy title be?
Etsy's limit is 140 characters and it is worth using most of them, because every unused character is a search term you are not matching. But the first 40 or so carry the most ranking weight and roughly the first 60 are what a shopper reads, so a title is really two jobs: a readable product phrase at the front, and additional search coverage behind it.
Should I use all 140 characters?
Close to it, provided the extra characters buy new terms rather than repeating ones you already have. A 140-character title that says "print" four times is worse than a 90-character title that says four different things.
Do separators like | and , affect Etsy SEO?
Etsy treats them as breaks between phrases, so they are useful in moderation and harmful in excess. A title chopped into ten fragments reads as a keyword list rather than a product, and shoppers skip it — which costs you the click-through that actually feeds ranking.
Does repeating my main keyword help it rank?
No. Etsy does not rank a listing higher for saying a word twice, and the second use spends characters that could have matched a different search. The one exception is a genuine phrase variation people really type, which is a different term rather than a repeat.
Is ALL CAPS bad in an Etsy title?
It buys nothing in search — matching is case-insensitive — and it costs you in readability, because shoppers read shouting as spam. Title case or sentence case both work fine.
Does this tell me which keywords to use?
No, and be wary of free tools that claim to. Knowing whether a phrase has real search volume needs live marketplace data. This grades the structure of the title you wrote; picking the words is a separate job covered in our keyword research guide.
