Etsy Tags for Wall Art: 13-Tag Examples for 8 Print Niches

Ready-to-adapt sets of 13 Etsy tags for wall art and posters — botanical, nursery, boho, quote, travel, kitchen, photography and coastal prints — and the rules each set follows.

Thirteen tags, twenty characters each. That is the whole budget for telling Etsy which searches a listing belongs in, and most wall art listings spend it badly: single words, chunks of the description, "wall art" in five different tags, or a description of the picture ("muted tones", "textured", "intimate scene") that nobody types.

Below are complete 13-tag sets for eight common print niches. Each one follows the same rules, and they are the rules worth copying more than the tags themselves.

The rules every set follows

  1. Three or four specific tags first. They name exactly this artwork: its subject, its place, its style or medium.
  2. The rest are broad. The searches the whole niche shares — the kind of print, the room, the occasion, the recipient.
  3. No word twice. "Wall art" and "wall decor" spend the same word; each repeat is a search you already reach.
  4. Phrases, not single words. Etsy matches a tag as a phrase, and a single word competes with every listing on the site.
  5. Searches, not descriptions. "Burgundy tones" describes the image; "burgundy wall art" is something a buyer types.
  6. Only what is true. No "framed", "canvas", "custom" or "digital download" unless that is what you sell.

The sets use US spelling ("watercolor", "color") because most Etsy buyers search that way; see UK vs US spelling in Etsy SEO if you sell mostly in Britain.

Botanical print (a watercolour fern)

fern wall art · botanical print · watercolor greenery · plant lover gift · cottagecore decor · forest nature poster · sage green artwork · vintage herbarium · housewarming idea · scandi minimalist · leafy illustration · zen bathroom · living room picture

The first three name the piece; "vintage herbarium" catches the antique-plate crowd; the room and gift tags do the broad work.

Nursery print (safari animals)

safari nursery art · baby animal print · minimal kids decor · expecting mom gift · jungle playroom · elephant poster · giraffe illustration · new parent present · boho toddler room · gender neutral · lion cub artwork · pastel zoo · first birthday

Nursery buyers search by theme ("safari", "jungle") and by who it is for ("expecting mom", "new parent") far more than by style.

Abstract and boho print

boho wall art · abstract print · mid century modern · terracotta poster · neutral living room · earthy arch shapes · minimalist artwork · japandi decor · statement piece · beige bedroom · sun illustration · housewarming gift · apartment styling

Style names ("mid century modern", "japandi") are real searches in this niche; colour belongs with the product ("terracotta poster"), not on its own.

Quote and typography print

motivational quote · typography print · office wall art · inspirational poster · positive affirmation · workspace decor · graduation gift · monochrome lettering · self care reminder · entrepreneur present · classroom decoration · mental health · study nook

Say what the words are for — the occasion, the room, the person — because the quote itself is rarely what gets searched.

Travel poster (Lisbon)

lisbon travel poster · portugal wall art · city skyline print · europe trip gift · yellow tram · retro destination · honeymoon keepsake · hallway artwork · alfama district · wanderlust decor · traveller present · mediterranean coast · office picture

Lead with the place by name. Travel art buyers search for where they went, not for "city poster".

Kitchen print (vintage mushrooms)

mushroom wall art · kitchen print · vintage fungi · cottagecore poster · forager gift · dining room decor · foodie present · mycology chart · autumn artwork · rustic farmhouse · woodland nature · cabin interior · chef housewarming

The room is the strongest broad tag for kitchen art — the buyer already knows where it is going.

Black and white photography (mountains)

mountain photography · black white print · landscape wall art · nature poster · alpine scenery · minimalist decor · hiker gift · monochrome bedroom · living room artwork · adventure lover · nordic interior · office picture · snowy peaks

"Black and white print" is 21 characters, one over the limit — "black white print" is how sellers fit it.

Coastal print (beach)

coastal wall art · beach print · ocean waves poster · seaside decor · surfer gift · bathroom artwork · nautical blue · lake house · sandy shoreline · vacation keepsake · tropical paradise · living room picture · sunset painting

Coastal art sells by setting ("lake house", "bathroom") and memory ("vacation keepsake") as much as by subject.

Turning a set into your set

  • Swap the specific tags for what your piece shows. A fern print and a monstera print share every broad tag and none of the specific ones.
  • Type each phrase into Etsy's search bar. If it autocompletes, buyers search it. If it does not, try a closer variant.
  • Check names before you use them. Anything naming a brand, character, film or celebrity can get the listing removed — see trademarked words to avoid on Etsy.
  • Do not paste one set across a range. Twenty listings with identical tags compete with each other for the same searches; our piece on cannibalisation in a poster range covers how that plays out.

If you would rather start from a draft for your own piece, the free Etsy tag generator writes 13 tags from a short description of the artwork, using these rules and ranking them against the tags the most-favoured listings for the same subject share. For the method behind all of this, see Etsy keyword research.

Frequently asked questions

What are good Etsy tags for wall art?

Multi-word phrases a buyer would actually type: a few naming exactly what your piece shows (subject, place, style), and the rest covering the searches the niche shares — the kind of print, the room it suits, and who it is a gift for. Every tag 20 characters or fewer, all 13 slots used.

Should I copy these tags exactly?

Use them as a structure, not a finished set. Swap the specific tags for what your artwork actually shows, check each phrase autocompletes in Etsy's search bar, and drop anything that is not true of your listing.

Can I repeat a word across tags?

You can, but each repeat spends a slot on a search you already reach. 'Wall art', 'wall decor' and 'framed wall art' reach one set of searches instead of three, so these sets use each word once.

Should tags include 'framed' or 'canvas'?

Only if that is what the listing sells. Claiming a format you do not offer brings the wrong buyers and the returns that come with them.
